My only bad coment about this place is "they do not accept American Express". This place is Marshalls and TJ. Maxx on Steroids. Heres an example a $800 pair of Salvatore Ferragamo boots on sale for $49.00, thats right $49.
Although you may not find more than one of any item, you are sure to find some wonderful treats. Many of the items, especially the shoes are items that Nordstorms custoumers have returned. My only surprise is that Nordstorms takes almost anything back. Shoes are worn, designer bags with ink stains or clothes with slight tears and its apparent that some of the items have been washed.
So I'm near the back door area. And there are these women hovering and waiting for the latest items to come out. The Ebay mafia is there too. They guy gets 5 feet and people are grabbing stuff.
Later on as I leave the store, there are women on the stairs discussing their hauls. References to how they tell their husbands they went to Curves. But of course they shopped. Those ladies hadn't seen the inside of a gym in a decade. Not only did they live in doube-wides, they were double wides.
Still a great place for the occasional deal.
Yuck.
I like the idea of bargain hunting, and who doesn't love a deal? But Last Chance is just a disaster.
The racks are cramped together, and completely disorganized. Even in the middle of the day the place was packed with really scary woman (I've never, ever been violently shoved away from a clothing rack before. Maybe we're just overly polite and reserved in Canada, but we call that kind of thing "assault".)
Every single item I tried on was either ripped, covered in some sort of unsettling stain, or looked like it had been through the washing machine. Getting 50% off a Calvin Klein dress isn't really a big deal when the entire left seam is ripped open. All of the shoes were scuffed and worn-looking.
Maybe somewhere, deep, deep down underneath the piles of clothes on the floor and aggressive warrior-shoppers there is a deal: but only if you have a good seamstress and drycleaner. Otherwise, I'd rather pay the extra $30 and go somewhere else.
I love Last Chance.. It has to be heaven on earth with a little chaos... last chance is like no place else for example I bought True Religions for $40. Its the best place to shop, but you need to devote some time too find the best sale items.
Dear families,
Stop bringing your children here to play in the aisles, run into me, and throw things. If you can't afford daycare - don't come here. I'm here to shop, not navigate around your nitwit children, Then again apples don't fall far from trees.
The shopping experience is pretty abysmal, but when you score here, you really, really, really score. Think: a brand new pair of black patent Valentino bow slingbacks for $99, a new-with-tags Ali Ro dress for $13, and barely-worn Jimmy Choo peep-toe mid-heel pumps for $75 (on sale that day). That's what keeps me coming back - insane deals on beautiful designer clothes and shoes. Here are my tips for navigating through the madness:
Tip 1: Don't come here first thing in the morning. There's a huge crowd of aggressive fashion bitches just waiting for them to open - and they will push you, give you the stinkeye, race-walk you to the merchandise (Technically not running so still within Last Chance rules for shopping! Barf.), and strong-arm you out of anything of interest. They re-stock continually throughout the day, so there's really no reason to torture yourself. (The fact that they had to put rules for shopping in place at all tells you enough.)
Tip 2: Be willing to strike out. Sometimes you find awesome stuff, sometimes you walk away empty-handed. For the three rad finds I listed above (bought on three separate trips), I went there probably 6 or 7 times. So if you're just generally in a shopping mood or a browsing mood, you're in a good state of mind for this place.
Tip 3: Look at clothes first, then shoes and bags. You can't bring shoes or bags into the dressing room, and you don't want to leave them just sitting in a cart unguarded outside. Oh - and be confident enough (and underwear-ed enough) to try things on in the common dressing area. You will save a ton of time. (And no one cares or even looks to notice what kind of shape you're in - no worries ladies!)
I gave this store one last chance, and it let me down. I think it's because this store just irritates me. The unorganized piles, cramped walking space, items scattered about on the floor... it's just not shopper friendly and neither are customers and customer service associates. Plus, have you seen the lines at this place! I admit that I just don't have the patience to wait in a line that long.
Inherently I'm not a fighter and I don't enjoy confrontations. Therefore, this store totally turned me off when I walked in and it reminded me of a scene from Bride Wars where Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway maul each other to the floor. These shoppers are intense. And while I enjoy a good deal as much as the next girl, I'm not willing to walk into a combat zone just to save money on a designer outfit or purse.
Another aspect of this store I cannot wrap my mind around is that a lot of these clothes look used and just plain gross. I'm all for dirt cheap, but when the clothing has actual dirt on it... no thanks.
There are so many people out there though who walk into this store, rummage through the racks and come out with some amazing finds! I am not one of them though, and maybe I'm just not lucky enough. But more power to those who can make this store work for them.
Shopping at Last Chance feels like a job. Therefore, when a store sucks all the fun out of my shopping experience, I find myself asking... What's the point?
Sadly, I will not be returning to this Last Chance location. There are some amazing deals, but I'll leave those for the power shoppers.
I shop to zen out for a while, page through colorful things and backburner all the crap I should be doing with my time. Last Chance feeds into that ritual and provides some of the best Phoenix-metro people watching possible (with far less child abuse and drama than most Valley Ross locations! A++).
If you're not willing to dig, not willing to bump into other people shopping, and definitely not willing to spend $20 dry cleaning and mending an otherwise perfect designer dress then Last Chance is not for you.
Recently saw a mother/daughter team hitting the bras just muttering, "Oh my god..." over and over as they continued to score hard to find bra sizes, which can retail for $80ish, for $5.97. Any ladies who fall outside of the Victoria's Secret size range should pay this place a visit at least twice to see how lucky they can get on finding high quality, and frequently new-with-tags, bras for under $10.
Sometime in August they got a haul of infant and child clothing, stuff that is ridiculously expensive retail and frequently a questionable purchase at thrift stores (babies puke a lot), which is a great example of the absolutely amazing stuff they have available for those who need it. They do update their Twitter for big sales and promotions like 40% off a certain type of item.
I'm always glad when I run into someone who won't go to Last Chance because of some negative stereotype (usually racist... oh hi grandma!) about the customers or the store itself. That just widens the pool of people to go "Holy &%^!!!!" when I tell them how much I paid for something which retails for more than a healthy kidney.
Really hit or miss.
One day there was nothing but crap,
another day,
I found a gorgeous formal gown with some beading and threading flaws for 11 bucks!
I fixed it up and hemmed it for 30 bucks and now its a top tier prom gown.
I also found a variety of size 4 shoes on different occasions.
Being a super petite size, its difficult to find my size,
but this store has it for women with itty bitty feet.
Heels, wedges, you name it.
downside: Some of the merchandise is dirty, damaged, or ugly,
merchandise display is messy,
but if you look hard enough you'll find something for a steal on a lucky day.
Downside: lines are LONG, no returns, crowded on weekends,
challenging to find parking.
This place scares me, and I'm a sample-sale/50%-off-at-Goodwill's expert.
I haven't experienced here any of the grabbing or poking or pushing over that I've had happen to me at sample sales in New York or at the Barney's Warehouse sale (or Black Friday/Boxing day sales). But this is a whole different breed of sales shopping. Clothes are sorted by size and style (sweaters. outerwear. dresses. long-sleeve tops. etc.) so the racks are jumbled and messy. The women's shoes section is frightening because there is just so much product and not enough room in the aisles to check things out without bumping into someone.
There are a few big labels in the mess, but a lot of is broken. I found Miu Miu flats that were hideous but still $99. I found a pair of Valentino heels that were missing its straps. I found Jimmy Choos that were missing pretty much every embellishment. Most of the stock is from mid-level brands, like Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, and high street brands like Steve Madden (tons!). It takes a LOT of digging to unearth anything halfway decent and unbroken. And you will find other stuff, like 5-inch rhinestone platforms, that will make you think "Oh but this is such a deal!" except once you get them home you will wonder where on earth you'd ever wear them. And by then it's too late, because returns are not allowed.
I'd recommend going here if you know exactly what you're looking for and won't be easily swayed by something you don't need.
